Would it be right to say that you were dodging every bullet, rarely accepting (and contemplating) deliberative conclusions over intuitive ones (in everyday life), and that logic worked as a representative example for how this attitude is wrong?

What message to past self would accelerate the transition?

Yes, your summary is adequate.

No idea what verbal message (rather than real-world action and result, as it happened) could have precipitated the transition, but reading about more examples like the one outlined in the post would definitely have helped.
