Is the Blue Brain Project an existential risk? Henry Markram, its leader, claims that a full model of a human brain will be constructed within 10 years. Once that's done it will be relatively simple to educate it. And as the successful completion of the project depends on gathering a lot of information about how the brain works, we can expect that information to be available to the artificial human, which in principle permits controlled self-modification.
