And make sure they use a barcode scanner. Given that books tend to have ISBN barcodes, it would be... irrational not to.
(If it seems to you like a matter of knowledge, not rationality, then take a little while to ponder how you could be wrong.)
I'm using (at Andrew Hay's kind suggestion) Delicious Library 2 (sadly only available on Macintosh, but I happen to be an Apple fanboy) which integrates with my webcam to do all my barcode scanning for me.
