Yeah, I remember that post and almost linked it but decided not to. I don't remember the sequel... so I'll go read that.
I remember getting hopelessly lost in the comments and never finding an actual resolution.
Of note, this post really doesn't care about probabilities and went out of its way to make things symmetrical. That isn't the point. I want to know how to act. When faced with an impossible problem, what do I do?
