The only thing I'd predict from knowing someone believes in many worlds is that they like science fiction

I'm starting to get the impression I should look into this science fiction thing. I seem to have a lot of traits that correlate with interest in it, and many of the people I associate with love it. It just so happens that I lack familiarity, since I didn't grow up with it myself.

This was Isaac Asimov's favorite story out of all the ones that he wrote.

I agree that you should look into it, but strongly disagree with both the specific recommendations that are currently present in replies. I suggest either picking from the Hugo Awards list or similar, or finding things in the intersection of science fiction and your other interests - I often find it easier to pick up this kind of new interest gradually.

I recommend John Scalzi, my current favorite science fiction author. Here's a sampler of his stuff that's available online for free. (Avoid anything in the Old Man's War universe until and unless you read the series itself.)
