Someone should point out that "That is a conversation-halter" is very often a conversation halter.

Um... no they're not? Refuting a specific point is not the same as trying to halt a debate and stop at the current answer.

By 'often' do you mean 'since Eliezer introduced the term he has used it as a conversation halter in every post he has made'? Although even then it didn't so much halt the conversation as it did preface an extensive argument with reasoning.
