Do you guys think that the 'mainstream' takes the AI problem seriously enough (right now at least) that they'd be willing to donate money to this cause?

The problem lies several levels of absurdity up from there. The public is not aware of the "AI problem". If the public was aware of the "AI problem" they wouldn't understand what it's about. If they did understand it, they would not think it was important relative to other problems. If they did think it was important relative to other problems, they would still think SIAI is a bunch of nutjobs.

I probably missed a few steps.
