Very interesting post, but you almost lost me here:

Consequently, most of the civilizations that find themselves on types (2), (3) or (4) islands are in fact on type (3) islands

I suggest a clarification to the effect of "more civilizations have existed (ephemerally) on type (3) islands than on (2) or (4) type ones, due to ease of access."
