I totally agree. If rationality means anything, it means this. I don't think EY really thought 'whatever makes you win' was definitional, but unfortunately a lot of people have latched on as though it is.

The example of the tarot cards is a bit dicey. I'm not sure I'd want to employ the decision procedure you're implying - something about correlation not implying causation. Or maybe I'm just thinking of Monday's XKCD.

I think, "whatever predictably makes you win, for an empirical, declared-in-advance definition of winning" might be a more accurate synopsis. ;-)
