I see that I am caught between a rock and a hard place. To people who think I'm wrong, I'm a crackpot who should be downvoted into oblivion. To people who think I might have something interesting and original to say, I'm helping to bring about the destruction of humanity.

To people who think I'm wrong: fine, who cares? Isn't the point of this site to be a forum where relatively well-informed discussions can take place about issues of mutual interest?

To people who think I'm bringing about doomsday: if my ideas are substantively right, it's going to take a long time before this stuff gets rolling. It will take a decade just to convince the mainstream scientific establishment. After that, things might speed up, but it's still going to be a long, hard slog. Did I mention I have only a good question, not an answer? Let's all take some deep breaths.

Let's all take some deep breaths.

I sense this thread has crossed a threshold, beyond which questions and criticisms will multiply faster than they can be answered.
