The whole purpose of this post seems to be that the consequences are surprisingly undisastrous; if you have a real reply to the core point (Like LauraABJ does above) I would be very interested to hear more disagreements.

I'm a little disappointed because I usually agree with your posts more than the LW community at large, but you don't seem to be saying anything at all here.
