The linked essay is one of the most viciously stupid things I have read in a long time.

Thanks JohnMaxwellIV for gratuitously insulting all autists by calling them assholes. I have been annoyed enough by evo-psychs saying humans do this or humans do that when many non-neurotypicals don't; apparently evo-psychs don't consider autists as humans (more likely they're just sloppy thinkers).

If you dislike my definition of asshole, please provide a new one. I'm genuinely interested to hear what you come up with. Remember, my definition applies only at the decision-making level: if you don't have a native capability to care for others but you emulate such a capability, you're no asshole in my book.

"if you don't have a native capability to care for others but you emulate such a capability, you're no asshole in my book."

Why should I want to emulate such a capability?

To make the world a better place, perhaps?

All right: why should my definition of 'better' involve caring for others?

Well, if you really don't care at all for other people, I don't think there's much I can do to bring you around. All I can say is that suffering is suffering and pleasure is pleasure, even if you aren't the one experiencing it.
