I made some comments on the recently-deleted threads that got orphaned when the whole topic was banned and the associated posts were taken down. Currently no-one can reply to the comments. They don't related directly to the banned subject matter - and some of my messages survive despite the context being lost.
Some of the comments were SIAI-critical - and it didn't seem quite right to me at the time for the moderator to crush any discussion about them. So, I am reposting some of them as children of this comment in an attempt to rectify things - so I can refer back to them, and so others can comment - if they feel so inclined:

That seems like naive reasoning. It is a lot easier to make a random mess of ASCII that crashes or loops - and yet software companies still manage to ship working products.
