No, the statement you're proving is also wrong. When you're summing an infinite series, the directions "toward zero" and "toward infinity" aren't symmetric: the terms of the series must become arbitrarily small as n goes to infinity, but they don't have to become small as n goes to zero. And it's impossible to enumerate hypotheses (using integers starting from 1) in order of decreasing complexity.
