Twenty years ago, I was eight years old. I think that I can honestly say that if you somehow replaced me with my eight-year-old self, it would be the same as killing me. (To a great extent, I'm still mostly the same person I was at fourteen. I'm not at all the person I was at eight.)

In order for this to be an objection to immortality, you would have to believe that the immortality process halts the processes of intellectual and emotional maturation.

Good point.

On the other hand, I don't know how likely it was for eight-year-old me to end up as the person I am now; for all I know, I could have ended up someone very different.
