I think that we definitely should find some problems to tackle that are not minefields of bias and confusion, but are still challenging.

I think these should be within a field that is mature enough that there will be hard open problems, but also problems which look hard to a novice, but have definite answers to an expert.

To keep us interested, it should also be something that is more practical, so that fixing the big things or learning how to do the everyday things will help ourselves or others.
