I hate these tactics, but want to read what Aurini has to say, because I enjoy knowledge about such things and you never can tell when it will turn out useful. For example, "Games People Play" helps me recognize and escape bad situations.
Normally I would assume that the purpose in teaching them is indeed to help the reader avoid them, but this is explictly refuted in the post. That's what confused me.
