I think it's worth giving the full quote:

Working on www.theuncertainfuture.com, one of the things I appreciated the most were experts with the intelligence to make probability estimates, which can be recorded, checked, and updated with evidence, rather than vague statements like “pretty likely”, which have to be converted into probability estimates for Bayesian updating anyway. Futurists, stick your neck out! Use probability estimates rather than facile absolutes or vague phrases that mean so little that you are essentially hedging yourself into meaninglessness anyway.
