Sounds like you do think of yourself as an isolated survivalist in a world of aliens with which you cannot profitably coordinate. Let us know if you find those more interesting systems you suspect can be built from smarter bricks.
Putting so much work into talking about these things isn't the act of an isolated survivalist, though.
