The OP says that conversation happened in the spring of 2010, but the well wasn't capped until July, and oil is still washing up on shore today. Even if everything in Vaniver's post were true (which it isn't), those extra ships would have needed to be miraculously effective to have the entire spill cleaned up by the end of spring 2010.
