I think you must be talking about epistemic rationality.
I don't think instrumental rationality runs into quite the same problem.
Yes this debate is most topical with epistemic rationality. However I feel someone using instrumental rationality can encounter similar problems, its easy to imagine sending bad signals to people about yourself when discussing how to go about "winning".
That is, when having an epistemologically rational discussion of instrumental rationality considerations. Instrumental rationality just lies.
