I avoid math-for-it's-own-sake because it's harder than it is fun, and because it feels bad to have your brain smash into a brick wall when it's used to flying around like a gossamer-winged angel.

Of course, I would spend triple the time required to master a math concept on learning a new drumming concept, but I've been playing for 18 years, so there is base competency to cushion ego blows.
