I tried to refute the Big Bang theory when I was his age too. When you're young and don't know anyone significantly smarter than you, it's easy not to develop good "somebody would already have thought of this" sensors.

And it just keeps getting harder and harder to develop them as you age.

Apparently a lot of LessWrongers try something like this. The commenters in that article became rationalists; this kid may have a good chance.
