My immediate reaction to this is wanting to couple it with this and, to stretch the metaphor, have the rider modify the environment so that the elephant's independent desires happen to be for things the rider desires as well.
Hmm. This is really interesting.
For this, one should know elephant's desires, at least. It must be not easy.
Seems good idea to me.
