A version I use is: Never attribute to stupidity what can be adequately explained by intelligence.
This is a much pithier wording, but without explanation I think the listener will see it as a rejection of Hanlon's Razor, rather than an unrelated remark.
It's actually just a more general form - stupidity is a value of the 'intelligence' property.
