Lets say you had two choices about how to view the world: 1. Giving to charity is a wonderful thing to do. Giving makes you happy and not giving makes you feel sad. 2. Giving to charity is a stupid thing to do. Giving makes you feel like a rube who is getting conned and not giving makes you happy for being smart enough to avoid it.

And lets also assume that you value money. Which way of viewing the world is better? Well, I think its obvious that 2 is better because you get to feel good about yourself and keep your money. Shouldn't LWers therefore try as best they can to achieve this viewpoint? Isn't that a better way to go through life? Its certainly not impossible. I've done it. You can too!

Removing a preference can interfere with satisfying that preference.
