I've never heard of people locking their refrigerator doors at night.

My family has one on the freezer in the garage. You use a lock on them when you worry about theft, or about accidental opening - in our case, the freezer has a couple thousand dollars of meat (we buy in bulk, half a year's supply or so), and we learned our lesson about the latch when it was left open for a day, half the meat thawed, and we lost several days and a lot of meat in dealing with it. When it's locked, it's definitely not coming open!
