This analysis seems accurate. One thing to note regarding organized events is that the Singularity Summits seem to be a lot more successful than the FHI's comparatively small conferences.
They are different things completely. The former are for spreading a message widely to a popular audience, and the latter are academic conferences.
That's a good point. They aren't necessarily comparable.
