The establishment of contact with any superior community would obviously be of unparalleled importance for the human race — socially, scientifically, and culturally. It could lead either to our rapidly attaining superior status ourselves, or it could lead to our extinction. It probably depends upon how well we conceal, or overcome, our own grave failings as social beings.
