Basically, I'm confused about politics. I don't really know how to define myself, or even what side I like better (US politics, Republican vs. Democrat), or even if I should identify with a certain party.

Politics is the Mind-Killer. Surely you have heard that. And identifying with a party is one of the quickest ways to kill what's left of your mind.

I just want the truth, damnit.

There is no such thing as the objective truth, at least as far as politics/economics/society in general is concerned. Maybe some general guidelines of what tends to work and when.

Politics has too many pitfalls, if you want to avoid being suckered, learn all you can about cognitive biases first. Probably won't make you any happier, or make you any friends among "politically active" youth, though.
