Replace the "procrastination" in procrastination research with "basketball." How far would basketball research get if it didn't notice or recognize the benefit of tallness? What is the "tallness" of highly productive individuals? Is "tallness" actually very rare in populations? Does "tallness" account for an a highly productive individual's ability to be highly productive without the feeling of being held by the group?

If we don't happen to possess high levels of "tallness" -- it being a freakishly rare genetic commodity -- is it therefore stupid for us to fret so much about akrasia? Wouldn't the next step be to use our rationalist powers to assign higher status to stuff like productivity support groups? I'm talking about a real campaign to dethrone solo effort as a superior way of getting things done (unless solo effort is indisputably the best thing for that person).
