"How much food do I need in the next two weeks?" and it returns the value for how hungry you are right then. So to prevent overspending, don't go grocery shopping while hungry.

The bulk that you purchase is not so much of a problem as is what you purchase. If you buy extra food (and hopefully concentrate on eating the most perishable items first) you end up not having to shop for longer. However when grocery while hungry foods high in carbohydrates start seeming like a good idea.

You end up with food that is bad for you.

The rule is for people who throw out food after buying too much. But on more careful consideration, I'm certain my comment would have been improved by deleting the last sentence.
