Cue for noticing rationalization: I notice that I want a particular conclusion, and that I don't actually anticipate updates from the considerations that I'm "thinking through" (if alone) or saying/hearing (if conversing).

The first part is the big one for me. When I'm reading a study and see "the results of our experiment were..." and I know what I want to see next, warning bells go off.
