Almost any real-world problem is much too complex to arrive at an answer using explicit logic. Logic is great for checking an answer, but not so good for generating answers. Almost all books on problem solving present heuristics for solving problems, and show how to generate heuristics for different types of problems, see, for example Polya's "How to Solve It" and Wicklegren's "How to Solve Mathematical Problems".
