I hate everything Jaynes has written about Cox's theorem. He glosses over assumptions and pretends the assumptions that he admits too are weaker than they are.
Go back and read it again. Cox's theorem isn't anywhere near as strong as Jaynes makes it out to be.
Will do. I just obtained a hard copy of P:tLoS to study a little more seriously.
Are there any specific issues to watch out for? Is there a better source for understanding Cox's theorem you could point me to?

Halpern gives a correct proof of one of the rigorous variations on Cox's theorem, and gives a counterexample to Cox's theorem for a set of propositions that's too small to satisfy the density requirement.
