Was anyone else extremely annoyed when it turned out that Harry was a Horcrux in canon?
I thought it was ridiculous for a few reasons:
"Soul" generally means personality, no hint of Harry having an evil personality appeared until book 6, and even that was active possession so it hardly counts. I'm currently of the opinion that she made up the idea to turn him into a Horcrux halfway through the series because of the total lack of any evidence at all prior to book 6.
The idea that you can "accidentally" perform a complex secret Dark ritual is ridiculous. Especially because accidental magic has previously always matched the goals of the caster, but Voldemort didn't want Harry to live and certainly didn't want to make him into a living Horcrux (although that would have been cool if he actually did, and had planned that). Also, this seems to be incompatible with how HPMOR magic has already been established to work so EY will need to fix this one.
Harry's connection to Voldemort could be much more simply explained through the prophecy and Lily's sacrifice and the blood transfer, etc. Occam's' Razor says that the presence of yet another special connection between them is unnecessary and improbable.
Similarly, it's much more probable that the powers were transferred through a broad and unspecified "random magical accident" category than it is that the powers would be specifically transferred through Horcrux power. There was no evidence to recommend the specific Horcrux theory over a more generic one, and the absence of that evidence should have itself been evidence against the theory (because good writers usually try to support these kind of things better).
You can't cast a Dark Ritual spell and not even notice it. The excuses Rowling made for this were dumb.
I will be extremely impressed if EY manages to solve these problems when he finishes this fanfic.
