What does FOOM stand for?
It's not an acronym. It's an onomatopoeia for what happens when an AI self-recursively improves and becomes unimaginably powerful.
(A regular explosion goes BOOM; an intelligence explosion goes FOOM.)
I added it to the jargon page.
Very rapid increase/acceleration. Originally it's the sound you hear if you pour gasoline on the ground and set fire to it.
It's the sound of an AI passing by, I guess.
