Discussion article for the meetup : First meetup in Frankfurt (Main)

WHEN: 22 February 2013 06:30:27PM (+0100)

WHERE: Café Albatros, Kiesstraße 27, 60486 Frankfurt am Main

This is an attempt to start a regular meetup in Frankfurt (Main). Since its also the first meetup in Frankfurt, we should get to know each other a little bit and maybe discuss what we would want out of a regular meetup.

I will be sitting at a table in the Cafe Albatros from 18 20 to at least 20 00. Of course I will have a LessWrong-sign so there won´t be any confusions. See you soon!

After the date, please mention how it went. Atlanta (where I am) had a few attempts to start meetups, but none were successful as far as I know. Information on cold-start meetup attempts (successful or otherwise) would be nice.

I have a hypothesis that the karma of the prospective starters has a noticeable impact on the willingness of people to come.

Short summary of the first Frankfurt-Meetup:

We were five adults and one child. We had no strict program; in the span of 18 30 to 21 30 we exchanged among others the following things: lifehack-tips; the impressions we get from the LessWrong-community; interest in further meetups, with potential themes; a startup german cryogenic firm. All five of us would be interested to meet again, and we undertook concrete steps to ensure this. It seems as if a more-or-less permanent meetup could be possible.

This concludes the not-last and not-final transmission of the impossible-possible-meetup.

Good catch; I wasn't watching. Thanks for the update.

What sort of plans did you arrange to ensure a second meeting? Just schedule a date then and there? (I'm thinking not, or you would have said as much.)

Thanks for the information. Good luck, and maybe consider keeping notes on what works and what doesn't, statistics on returning guests, etc. I know successful meetup reports and advice exist elsewhere on LW, but experimental replication can't hurt.

Der beliebteste doodle Termin ist der 15. .

A Frankfurter friend of mine suggested the Albatros; I trust his judgement, but did not verify the location. Should any of you know of a better place, please feel free to suggest it here, and I`ll possibly change the location.

Hi, wie ist es gelaufen? Ich war leider krank und konnte nicht kommen. Beim nächsten mal bin ich dabei.

The marker on the map seems to have wrong latitude and longitude. When I enter Café Albatros or Kiesstraße 27 in google maps it points to a different place. http://imgur.com/4XRiYjW

Living in Stuttgart and am not sure whether it will be worth traveling out into Frankfurt (Train tickets are expensive). It would be good to know some measure of attendance or length of time to know if it is worth showing up.

Damn, I totally missed this. Next time you do a meetup you can count me in.

Should have been posted in Main. :-)
