Two words: paranoid stupidity.
Few more words, actually. Get out of paranoid mode and try to figure out what Hubble Space Telescope would end up seeing in your imaginary world of star eating alien AIs. A futile proposal, of course - you know what HST sees so you'll just fit as many arbitrary assumptions as it takes to get correct picture.
