I think that the open thread belongs in Discussion, not Main.

It usually goes there, yes - presumably it was put in Main in error.

Before I've checked two other open threads, including the last one, and when the link is open it shows "Main" dark shaded on top of them.

For the time being I switched it to discussion.

Unfortunately, this is not an indicator that the post is actually in Main.

Originally, they were generally in Main, since Discussion was just for putting posts that need cleanup work. Eventually this was changed though, and we usually keep open threads in Discussion these days.
