I enjoy a lot of your top-level posts, but this one seems maybe less suitable for LessWrong. While I do appreciate what you're trying to do in terms of establishing context for future posts, this post seems perhaps better-suited as a personal blog entry.

I understand what you're coming from, but was following a precedent on Less Wrong of people making personal posts, many of which have been heavily upvoted. In any case, my subsequent posts will be much less focused on myself :-)

I appreciated this post a lot - I think understanding what causes people to become interested in (and actively working on) Effective Altruism is important.

We don't want to be flooded with personal anecdote posts, but I think it's reasonable to have one if it's in a broader context. I expect when you're done with your current set of posts they'll be packaged into a sequence, and having some personal background will be add some useful context.
