What kinds of changes to the economy would disproportionately help FAI over UFAI? I gather that your first-order answer is "slowing down", but how much slower? (In the limit, both kinds of research grind to a halt, perhaps only to resume where they left off when the economy picks up.) Are there particular ways in which the economy could slow down (or even speed up) that would especially help FAI over UFAI?
