As long as we are in a world where billions are still living in absolute poverty, low economic growth is politically radicalizing and destabilizing. This can prune world branches quite well on its own, no AI needed. Remember, the armory of apocalypse is already unlocked. It is not important which project succeeds first, if the world gets radiatively sterilized, poisoned, ect before either one succeeds. So, no. Not helpful.
