So that the result is a nonsentient optimizer that goes around making genuine discoveries, but the discoveries are not savored and enjoyed, because there is no one there to do so.

I'm not sure how to distinguish this from a person who goes around making discoveries but is too busy to savor and enjoy anything.

Such a person would still have other experiences.

The key point isn't the "not savored and enjoyed" bit, but the "no one there" bit.
