People on LW vote this up when discussion of emotions and rationality is kept far, but complain it is irrelevant if you bring it near.

You've recently made a lot of comments along the lines of 'LW is inconsistent, because it upvoted X but downvoted Y even though X and Y share property Z'. I think you've been neglecting the importance of execution relative to concept. If Z is just a topic (or thesis, or motif), then it's a pretty thin basis for analogy. Not everything written on the same topic is of the same quality.

I'm also not sure Julia had in mind stuff like poetry readings or abstract philosophical ruminations on the generic Value Of Reason. I'd like to hear more about what sorts of emotion-talk CFAR regularly engages in, but I'd expect it's more like 'when you did A it made me feel B, could we talk about that?', or 'hey, here's a neat trick for feeling like C more often!'; not so much 'I shall now soliloquize on the Essence of True Love in iambic tetrameter!...'. That sounds like it could be fun too, but not quite as lesswrongsome.

I think the bigger flaw in the syllogism is that the sample sizes accumulated via voting are so incredibly small relative to the user base.

Also stuff like noticing at all when you're feeling and being motivated by an emotion.
