Then there are a couple billion dollars in my bank account, and the marginal utility of one more million wouldn't be that large. :-)

That's not a bug, it's a feature. If you're already a billionaire, then your utility function is nice and linear for changes on the order of a million or two, so no need for angst about $2M not being close to twice as good as $1M.
