Does the search function actually work for people here? It would be nice to find old comments every now and then. For me it just hangs in the loading phase, and very rarely returns anything.

Have tried both Chrome and Firefox.

I had the same problem for ages. I've just made a bookmarklet for a google search starting with 'site:lesswrong.com' when I enter 'lw' in the url bar.

Ok, googling most old comments seems to work fine now. It seems all of them are not indexed, and there's significant delay in indexing new comments.

I long ago simply set up window manager keybindings for Google and other sites, so I just hit mod-g 'keyword site:lesswrong.com'. If you don't have a hotkey set up for Google... I recommend you set one up. If you do nearly as many searches as I do, you'll find it pays for itself in weeks.

This used to work better before, I think. It seems google doesn't index most comments these days. I suppose that's what causes this whole problem then, huh?

For me it works well.

I have the same problem, although I don't think it's ever returned anything for me.

It works for me-- it's not very efficient in returning what I want-- if I ask for [quotes], the results won't be in chronological order, but if I ask for [quotes $month], they will be-- but it returns results quickly.

I'm using Chrome.
