I was referring more to the problems with other-optimizing. I'd estimate that it would be pretty dangerous to grant yourself permission to decide what delusions to instill in other people for their own good.

Perhaps it's slightly overstating the case to claim that it is best to encourage delusions in others (I didn't know about the article, but having read it it appears accurate), but it is at least true that if (hypothetically) rationality turns out to generally be a net loss one could persuade other rationalists to prevent it spreading and decide not to spread it oneself.

(Or alternately try and prevent it spreading to those likely to lose from it)
