Well, when you have "Homosexuals in the Basement", and the Nazi officer rings at your door, you had better make yourself believe you don't have them. What is, precisely, the difference between this deep-immersion roleplay, and genuine self-delusion, for all practical purposes? This is not a rhethorical question.
Make yourself believe strongly enough that you will invite the officer to check your basement?
Just to be practical, it is better to make yourself believe that you have something embarassing in your basement, such as, say, a (straight) porn stash or undeclared valuables or any other embarassing property that would make the officer sigh and roll his eyes on account of having bigger fish to fry.
