I've always admired the rhetorical dishonesty of the original quote: the unexamined life is not worth living.
In fact, this statement says NOTHING about whether the examined life is worth living or not. But virtually every usage of this original quote I have ever heard was intended to exhort us to examine our lives in order to make them worthwhile.
